If you want the ease of use of a vertical cleaner combined with the ease of a wireless model, you are at the right place with the Vorwerk Kobold VB100. This baggy model is self-standing and glides effortlessly over floors, picking up dirt on hard floors and carpets. Things start to get a little more annoying when you try to use a flat tool or a soft brush because you have to hold all the vacuum with both hands, making the delicate tasks a bit more difficult and it is difficult to cover the stairs. It’s also an expensive cleaner, but it will fit if you need a battery-powered replacement for a traditional vacuum cleaner.

Bag vacuum cleaners can be extremely useful, especially if you have allergic people in the house and want to get rid of your dust without spilling it. Surprisingly, there are few wireless models that take a bag, but the Vorwerk Kobold VB100 is one.
Designed to the same exacting standards as the company’s powerful plug-in Vorwerk Kobold VK200, the VB100 is a robust and powerful vacuum cleaner, ideal for hard floors and carpets. Its inflexible design makes this vacuum cleaner less interesting for upholstered furniture and stairs, and there is no price to pay. But, for those looking for the ease of use of a traditional vacuum with the convenience of a battery powered model, there is still plenty to do.
Vorwerk Kobold VB100 – What you need to know
- General vacuum cleaner: Vacuum cleaner easy to move, it can easily slip under the furniture and around the legs of the chair. However, the design does not lend itself to small spills, stairs or stairs
- Carpet test: Excellent aspirant, this vacuum cleaner collected our test spill in one pass and left no trace of dust.
- Hard floor test: Another great performance: sweep our rice and suck it without pushing debris
- Collection of animal hair: Excellent hold on the carpet, but the VB100 is more difficult to use on stairs and furniture because it is difficult to handle

The Vorwerk Kobold VB100 is well made and ideal for floors, but it is a little tricky for small jobs
Many cordless vacuum cleaners, such as the Dyson V11 Absolute, are built differently than their plug-in counterparts – with a small portable unit in which you attach a pole and accessories. This puts all the weight in the handle, so you can lose some of the ease and convenience of a traditional vacuum cleaner. The Vorwerk Kobold VB100 is different because this wireless model mimics a vertical vacuum cleaner.
Covered in Vorwerk’s standard glossy white plastic, the VB100 manages to get the look without looking cheap. Standing on the supplied EBB100 powered floor brush, the VB100 can stand up on its own, without any support.
When you are ready to go, you press the power button, fold the handle and push the VB100 like a traditional vacuum cleaner. The VB100 weighs 3.3 kg with the brush head, but the main body is lighter (2.1 kg) and the weight is evenly distributed. The result is a wireless cleaner that moves effortlessly on the ground, with the maneuverability of a traditional vertical cleaner.
Vorwerk has carefully studied the design, and the VB100 is easy to install – you can even place the handle quite flat with the floor to fit under sofas and other low furniture.
Although this design is suitable for soils, the VB100 becomes difficult to use for other areas. Try to tackle the stairs, for example, and the EBB100 brush is a bit too big to use comfortably on the steps.
Vorwerk provides a 2-in-1 tool, which acts as a crevice tool and has a soft, sliding brush to tackle blinds and other similar objects. This is clipped on the end of the vacuum cleaner, and is suitable for small jobs, but difficult to use elsewhere thanks to the long body of the vacuum cleaner (1 m).
Try using the brush to, for example, clean a spill on a counter and you must clumsily hold the whole vacuum with both hands. It is also difficult to clean spider webs from the ceiling, due to the size and weight of the vacuum cleaner. You can forget to use this vacuum cleaner to clean your car. A water hose would have been helpful and wireless hand vacs are more versatile.
Vorwerk Kobold VB100 uses a bag, easy to change
Open the back of the VB100 and you will see the 0.8 liter filter bag. When you remove the bag, a plastic cover snaps in, capturing all the dust captured for easy removal. If you have an allergy outbreak, the bag holds and traps fine particles and prevents them from escaping during emptying. By emptying the VB100 in a trash bin, I found that no dust escaped it.
The new bags are easy to set up and slide. You must have a bag in place to install the plastic cover, and the VB100 will not turn on if no bag is in place for protection.
There is a single motor filter above the bag, which you can remove to clean it. Vorwerk says the filter should be tapped to remove dust or vacuumed to clean it. This last point seems a good idea, but raises the following problem: you can not do this with the VB100 as it should not be used without this filter in place. You will either need another vacuum cleaner or a spare part that you can replace to clean the original.
The Vorwerk Kobold VB100 offers many power modes, which can be a bit confusing, but its replaceable batteries are practical
The Vorwerk Kobold VB100 has two controls. The main power button allows you to choose the suction mode: soft (30W), medium (80W) or maximum (230W). The EBB100 brush has its own button, which gives you three modes: normal (default option for hard floors), turbo (for carpets and very dirty areas) and off (for delicate areas or thick carpets) – you must press and hold the button).
This represents nine possible combinations of power settings, all of which give you varying battery run times, ranging from 11 minutes (turbo mode to maximum power) to 80 minutes (gentle suction with the EBB100 off or using mode 2 1 nozzle). For most people, the normal combination will probably be average power with the EBB100 in normal or turbo mode, which will give between 25 and 30 minutes of use. It’s not really enough to cross most homes, so you’ll probably need a load or two to make a home.
A full charge takes about three hours. You can charge the battery inside the VB100, but you can also remove it and recharge it on the outside, which gives you the option to have a spare battery for double your running time, although it will cost you £ 80 extra.
The cleaning performance of the Vorwerk Kobold VB100 is excellent on carpets and hard floors
If I wish one thing to Vorwerk, it’s a powerful cleanup, and I’m pleased to say that the VB100 meets these needs. A simple sweep on a carpet or hard floor has collected our spills, leaving a floor as clean as when you used the most powerful vacuum cleaners.
It is worth repeating how easy the vacuum cleaner is to maneuver and I found it as convenient to use as a traditional upright vacuum cleaner for floors.
The problems are in smaller areas, like cleaning the stairs, where the VB100 is hard to hold and the EBB100 brush does not fit in the small stairs of my Victorian home. Even so, the 2-in-1 brush has done a good job here, standing on the back of the treads and removing cat hair that tends to accumulate in it.
Should I buy the Vorwerk Kobold VB100?
The Vorwerk Kobold VB100 is not as versatile as the Dyson V11 Absolute. The Dyson vacuum has a longer battery life and a wide range of accessories that allow it to tackle hard floors, carpets, stairs, upholstery, cars and just about anything you love.
The design of the Vorwerk Kobold VB100 means that much of the flexibility of the wireless cleaner has been removed. What you lose in flexibility, you gain in ease of use for cleaning floors. Thanks to its vertical design that locks in place, the VB100 can be moved on floors in the same way as a traditional plug-in vacuum. If you have trouble holding a pocket vacuum for long periods of time, the VB100 may be right for you.
The use of a bag is nice to see because it offers a wireless cleaning option for allergy sufferers who want a safe way to clean up the dust they collect. In addition, the option of a second battery is convenient for extending the life of this cleaner.
It’s hard to escape the price. At £ 749, the Vorwerk Kobold VB100 is the most expensive cordless vacuum I’ve tested. Dyson V11 Absolute look like a bargain. On reflection, the Dyson V11 is the most suitable cleaner for most people, but if you need a wireless cleaner specifically designed for floors, you want a bagged option, the VB100 is a powerful vacuum cleaner and effective.
