What is the SteelSeries Arctis 9X gaming headset?

Bluetooth headsets are often a mixed bag. Used between various consoles, game consoles and other devices can be a disaster, as you face potential interference and other challenges when trying to find the perfect place for your gaming experience.

I encountered such problems over the course of my life with the Arctis 9X, tying up a spectacular set of equipment. This wireless headset works great with Xbox One, connecting with the simplicity of a controller and adapting immediately to my console experience.

SteelSeries also adorned the device with numerous bells and whistles, thus justifying the asking price. Apart from a few flaws, it’s an excellent headset offering impressive audio quality, stylish design and so much more.

SteelSeries Arctis 9X Design and Build – A compact and comfortable form factor, elegant in style

Compared to the other helmets I’ve tested, the SteelSeries Arctis 9X immediately sets itself apart by designing perfectly flat eardrums. There is no excessive lighting or stylish accessories hanging in my ears, which adds complications to what should be a simple and fast feature. Instead, what you get with the Arctis 9X is a smooth, flat surface that provides an excellent feel.

However, be careful when placing the Arctis 9X on a desk or similar rough surface: its mostly plastic exterior is surprisingly prone to scratches and marks. This is one of my major problems beyond the metal band, itself flanked by other materials.

Although the Arctis 9X feels fully premium, the plastic materials used in the real estate helmet may deter users from expecting a little more fancy. This plastic frame extends beyond the ear cups and into the headband, which is not what is expected of similar devices.

Instead, you will need to manipulate the fabric band that wraps around the helmet to find the level of comfort that’s right for you. However, it only took me a few minutes to adjust the helmet to my head and I was able to do it for dozens of hours. If this is the case, it cancels the potential wear of the traditional helmets.

This comfort extends to the earpieces themselves, which are among the best I’ve tested. As a wearer of glasses, I often found that with many devices, I suffered from dull pain after a few hours of use. Here, it just was not the case; The Arctis 9X is really comfortable to wear. Note that the headset may be small for some, however.

Regarding the buttons, dials and other input modes, the majority of them based on the right headset, from which you can control the power, the Bluetooth connection, volume and indicate whether the internal microphone is off or not. On the left earpiece, a solo scroll wheel determines the balance between the application’s audio (games, movies, etc.) and the microphone. Everything is intuitively placed and easy to locate without having to remove the headset completely.

Audio Features and Features of the SteelSeries Arctis 9X – This headset is extremely versatile

The overall sound quality of the Arctis 9X and its different profiles is impressive, especially for a wireless headset connecting via nothing more than a Bluetooth dongle. By pressing the power button once, you can scroll through a variety of different presets to create soundscapes suited to certain genres or applications. Shooters may need a profile with distinct bass tones, while an atmospheric horror experience fosters subtle small audio signals that will feel brilliantly crispy here.

The default, out-of-the-box options look great – although audiophiles who want to make their own selection of sound profiles can download SteelSeries’ Engine and tweak the elements down to the smallest detail. You will need to install it on a PC or laptop to use the software.

Otherwise, console players should feel satisfied with the selection of profiles available from the start. Flexibility is welcome, offering an element of customization that not all competitive helmets can match.

SteelSeries said that the Arctis 9X benefits from what is called “immersive sonic space audio,” which means that the audio performance is designed to detect any noises occurring around the drive , whatever their subtlety or abrasiveness. After a few weeks of testing, I can attest to the hard realism it brings to a variety of genres.

Arctis 9X Test

The Arctis 9X can be used wirelessly and wired, although a cable is not provided in the box. It connects to the Xbox One in the manner of a controller, and the configuration is simple. To use it on PC, you must have an Xbox Wireless dongle and connect, as before, as you would with a controller. It’s relatively transparent, even though I had to restart the Discord application for the microphone to be recognized.

The headset also includes dual connectivity options, which means you can connect to a PC / console and another Bluetooth device at the same time. For example, you can take a phone call or listen to music on your smartphone while playing on the Xbox One. This extends to applications such as Discord, Skype and Spotify, giving the Arctis 9X a versatility that I really appreciated.

Should I buy the SteelSeries Arctis 9X gaming headset?

If you have £ 180 to win, the SteelSeries Arctis 9X is one of the best gaming headsets you can buy right now. It offers versatility on all consoles and PCs, including a wide range of customization options, audio profiles and other features that result in a fantastic experience.

Plastic aesthetics and small size can put some players out of favor and diminish the premium atmosphere, but it’s a small price to pay for one of the most impressive wireless headsets I’ve tested in a while.

Verdict

The Arctis 9X is a great gaming headset that works well with the Xbox One and PC, leveraging platforms to deliver a clear, concise and satisfying audio product. It costs a nice penny, but it is certainly worth it.
