Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 Review: Hands on

First impressions

With Wear OS still missing, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 has the serious potential to be the best smartwatch for Android users.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2, which was announced shortly before the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy Note 10 Plus, is the latest attempt by the Korean brand to create an Apple Watch rival for Android.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 – Price and Release Date

The Watch Active 2 is available as LTE and Bluetooth version and can now be pre-ordered. The Bluetooth model starts at £ 269 / $ 279 for the 40mm model and £ 289 / $ 299 for the 44mm model. This price rises to £ 399 and £ 419 if you want LTE. There are no LTE prices in the US yet.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 Design and Display – A really nice-looking smartwatch

The biggest change for the Galaxy Watch 2 is the addition of a touch-sensitive bezel surrounding the circular OLED display. This works much like the rotating bezel on old Gear watches, but with no moving parts.

In my short time with the device, it seemed to work very well, and I prefer this navigation method instead of tripping over the small display with my finger.

I do not think there is a better-looking smartwatch at the moment

You can pick up the Watch Active 2 in two sizes: 40 mm and 44 mm. I tried both and found that I was quite surprisingly drawn to the larger model, though I prefer dinkier watches. This pretty, sleek design looks even better when it’s a bit bigger. It also felt a bit easier to use the lunette navigation on the 44mm model.

This is a really well designed Swartwatch that does not try too hard to look like a traditional watch. It is simple, fits close to the wrist and is available in a few tasteful colors. From the bands to the face, everything feels great. I do not think there is a better-looking smartwatch at the moment.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 features – Not much has changed here

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is still a fitness-oriented smartwatch that offers the most features you expect. There is GPS, 24-hour heart rate monitoring and a variety of sensors to track your movement. The body is also waterproof, which means you can swim freely with the watch.

We have not spent a long time with the Active 2, so we’ll be thinking about battery life for the full test. Samsung claims, however, that the wearable should comfortably last a day. It contains the same Apple Watch-like charger as the first-generation product.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 has an easy-to-use interface that puts all the important things in the foreground

The software this watch runs on is Tizen, not Wear OS. Considering that Wear OS does not really have the right design, I actually prefer using a Samsung watch. There are some nice workouts and coaching sessions, as well as an easy-to-use interface that puts all the important things to the fore.

While I found the clock dial dialing on the first model somewhat limited, Samsung added an option here to create faces from images. In this way, you can customize the clock to your personal needs.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 – Early Judgment

With Wear OS still missing, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 has the serious potential to be the best smartwatch for Android users.

A “hands-on review” is just our first taste of a product – it’s not a complete test and judgment. Our author must have spent some time with the product to get a first impression of how it is used. We call these “hands on reviews” to make them visible in the search. However, these are always unweighted and give no recommendations.
