Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus review: Hands on

First impressions

The Galaxy Note 10 Plus is the true successor of the Note 9. It’s a huge phone brute with a lovely screen, lots of grunting and a huge battery. There is not much new compared to the S10, but it’s still Samsung’s real high-end phone for the end of 2019.

Key specifications

  • Price of the opinion: $1,199.99
  • 12MP, 16MP (wide) and 12MP (TV) rear cameras
  • 6.8-inch QHD + AMOLED display
  • 256, 512 GB storage + microSD
  • 4300mAh, load of 25w
  • 10MP front camera
  • 12 GB of RAM

Samsung broke the mold with the launch of Note this year, unveiling two devices that had previously only one. the Note 10 is the smallest and most affordable option, while the Galaxy Note 10 Plus is the true phablet of the company for 2019.

As its name indicates, like the S10 series of the beginning of the year, the Plus is a broader and more feature-rich version of the formula established by the standard Note 10, with option 5G.

Does the extra weight and the big size make it a valid competitor against the tastes of the iPhone XS Max and Huawei P30 Pro? Let’s see.

How much does the Galaxy Note 10 Plus cost?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus will end up on store shelves as of August 23, with pre-orders underway right now.

In the UK (among other markets) you have the option of a 256GB model that sells for £ 999 (US $ 1099.99) while the 512 GB model unveiled at the launch of the phone is not yet confirmed for British shores, but it is up for grabs. for $ 1199.99 in the United States.

There is also the question of the 5G model, which is currently a Verizon exclusive in the United States at $ 1299. In the UK, it starts at £ 1099 (for the 256GB model) and costs £ 1199 for a 512GB capacity.

Display and design – Galaxy Note 10 Plus is a very large phone with a very nice screen

While Samsung’s Galaxy S series offers considerable appeal, the Note range has always been adapted to a more specialized audience. As a result, this allows Samsung to take more risks, which is most evident by its sheer size. This phone may be close to “no-glasses” status, with a screen reaching the boundaries of its borders, but it’s still one of the most important phones I’ve handled.

The front and back glass faces with strongly curved edges meet at a narrow metal frame. The aesthetic combines strength and elegance, helping to keep the phone well polished and free of fingerprints. The base of the 10 Plus has a USB-C port and a space for the S Pen Pen, but something is missing.

Samsung has finally dropped the headphone jack from the note design, which means you’ll have to rely on the built-in adapter or compatible headphones. The dedicated Bixby button, located to the left of the latest Samsung phones, was finally canceled.

Instead of this port, you get a pair of AKG USB-C buttons in the box (UPDATE: as I said at the beginning, it does not come with a 3.5 mm adapter, so you have to buy it separately.). It is still a water resistant phone (IP68) and, unlike Note 10, smaller, retains a microSD slot to increase the storage capacity of the base.

During my several hour session with the Note 10 Plus, the screen made the difference. Now, there is no fast refresh technology like the OnePlus 7 ProThere is always a small cut that hides the front camera, but the colors and punch of a Samsung OLED really attract you. The HDR10 + support is there too.

In terms of specifications, you’re looking for a 6.8-inch version of the AMOLED Dynamic Panel introduced by Samsung earlier in the year, with a resolution of 3040 x 1440.

Galaxy Note 10 Plus Front and S Pen

S Pen and Software – The Note 10 Plus has something hidden inside and focuses on games

Note 10 and Note 10 Plus are different from the S10 by inserting a stylus into the body. The S Pen Pen is the main feature of the Note series and is the only flagship product that allows you to draw and take notes with a pen on the screen. It is a pleasure to write and scribble, thanks to a fantastic reactivity and an excellent rejection of the palms.

The S Pen is very similar to what you would find in a note 9. It contains Bluetooth Low Energy, which makes it a remote for your phone and several new “aerial gestures” for zooming and changing the volume. with better recognition of writing.

Like the S10, the Note 10 Plus leverages Samsung’s new One UI interface against Android 9. Although this is a big improvement over the previous Samsung software, it still lacks the smoothness of the system. Oxygen OS operation on OnePlus 7 Pro.

So what’s new for Note 10 Plus? On the one hand, you can now connect your device to a PC or Mac to access a DeX user interface similar to that of a PC. It is also possible to stream games from your PC, Samsung selling separately a clip controller.

Performance and battery life – The Galaxy Note 10 Plus should be one of the most powerful phones on the market and the 5G option

As usual with Samsung phones, many internal components are used. In Europe, this is the Exynos 9825 which is a slightly more efficient version of the S10’s 9820, while the US gets a Snapdragon version. This is the Snapdragon 855 rather than slightly faster 855 + we have seen in a few upcoming gaming phones.

This chipset has been paired with 12GB of RAM and you can choose between 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. In terms of battery, you are looking for a 4300mAh heavy cell with 25W fast charge.

Interestingly, the phone Is support an even faster charge at 45 W – to do this you will have to shell out more money for a new adapter. This sounds very strange for a phone costing over £ 1,000 / $ 1,000. The wireless charge remains and is raised to 15W, with the Wireless powershare feature introduced with the S10. This allows you to slowly use other Qi compatible devices (phones, AirPod, Active Galaxy Watch 2) using the battery of the Note 10 Plus. It’s a handy feature that would be nice to be a little faster.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus review: Hands on 1

It is unfair to evaluate the speed or life of a phone battery after a few hours. I will save this for in-depth in-depth review, where we will look at complete scores and out-of-order breakdowns. For the moment, I will say that it has seemed very keen and with all this power inside, it should be one of the fastest phones on the market.

Rumors had suggested that the 10 plus note would simply be a Phone 5G in all its configurations. This is not the case and you will need to get a specific version of the Note 10 Plus 5G to benefit from it.

Camera – The same set as the Galaxy S10 5G with four sensors at the back

While the Note series may have already given us a glimpse of what would happen in the next big Galaxy S phone, it’s now a case of using what already exists. The row of cameras on the back of the Note 10 Plus looks to be taken directly from the Galaxy S10 5G version.

On the back of the Note 10 Plus are three cameras, plus a flight time sensor: a 12-megapixel main sensor with an aperture that varies between F /1.5 and F /2.4 depending on conditions, an ultra-wide 16 megapixel camera F /2.2 and 12 megapixels F /2.1 telephoto lens. This ToF sensor is used to measure depth more precisely, hopefully improving the Live Focus bokeh mode.

Galaxy Note 10 Plus Camera

The main and telephoto cameras have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), as they did for the S10 series. We are also putting more emphasis on video, with a “professional quality” video recording (words from Samsung), a “super stable” stabilization and an improved video editor.

I had little time to test the camera and the conditions were not ideal. I keep my final verdict for a complete examination. However, it seemed to work very well like the Galaxy S10. This is one of the best smartphone cameras available today. Note 10 seems to be fine. We do not know if it will compete with the next Pixel 4.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus – First verdict

The Galaxy Note 10 Plus is the true successor of the Note 9. It’s a rough phone with a lovely screen, a lot of grunting and a huge battery. There is not much new compared to the S10, but it’s still Samsung’s real high-end phone for the end of 2019.

A “practical test” is our first impression of a product only – it is not a complete test or a verdict. Our editor must have spent some time with the product to quickly describe what he is using. We call these “practical exams” to make them visible in searches. However, they are still not marked and do not give recommendations.
