As we prepare for the launch of the Intel Core i9-9900KS – some motherboard vendors are already releasing the motherboard firmware to support the new processor – new documentation appears, suggesting the more powerful iteration of the Intel Core i9-9900K The roads could possibly lead to success with a 127W TDP (Thermal Design Power).
Urotho's keen-eyed redditor noted that Asus has updated the list of processor supports for its ROG Maximus XI gaming code motherboard, listing the Core i9-9900KS with a TDP of 127W.
Of course, this specification was not confirmed by Intel. In addition, it seems Asus has removed the Core i9-9900KS from the motherboard CPU backer, perhaps until the chip hits the road in October. However, Tom's hardware also indicated that Russian retailer DNS Shop has confirmed this information on its Core i9-9900KS landing page.
What does this higher TDP mean for consumers?
We already know that the upcoming CPU will have a 4GHz base clock and a 5.0GHz boost clock for all cores, the 3.6GHz and 5.0GHz base and boost Clocks of the i9-9900K. Apart from that, there are no big differences in the technical data, since the Core i9-9900KS has, among other things, the same number of cores and threads.
If the rumor mill is right, then the Core i9-9900KS will have the highest TDP rating on an Intel mainstream desktop processor. The 127W TDP, which is 33.68% higher than the 95W I9-9900K, also means that the chip could potentially perform better.
On the other hand, this also means that more heat is generated and more power is consumed, possibly requiring a stronger thermal cooling solution. This is not without mentioning the fact that not all motherboards on the market can support the Core i9-9900KS.
Of course, we will have to wait until the October release to confirm all this. The good news is that it will not be long before we get the Intel Core i9-9900KS in our hands to see how it behaves in real scenarios.
