OnePlus 7T Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

2019 was the first year that OnePlus really designed phones to compete with the best flagships in the world, first with the OnePlus 7 Pro and now with the OnePlus 7T Pro.

It's not a big upgrade for the 7 Pro, but it's still an upgrade that makes it the highest quality phone OnePlus has to offer, and it's the clearest competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus.

The Samsung phone is a bit older and will be launched in early 2019. However, it remains one of the most successful Android flagships and tops the list of the best phones. Does the OnePlus 7T Pro have what it takes to compete? Read on to get a clearer idea.

The OnePlus 7T Pro features a curved, 6.67-inch, 516-pixel-per-inch 1440 x 3120 display with an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9. It uses Fluid AMOLED, supports HDR10 +, and has a refresh rate of 90 Hz.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, on the other hand, features a domed 1440 x 3040 inch display with 522 pixels per inch and an aspect ratio of 19: 9. This phone uses Dynamic AMOLED and also supports HDR10 +, but only has a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

This refresh rate is one of the main differences between the two phones. This means that animations and interactions with the OnePlus 7T Pro should feel a bit smoother at the expense of low battery life (but the refresh rate can be switched to 60 Hz, if you prefer).

In most other cases, these two phones have similar screens, although the OnePlus 7T Pro is slightly larger.

In the meantime, the Samsung may look a little better – we will not be able to say for sure until we have fully tested the OnePlus 7T Pro, but Samsung's flagship screens are usually among the best for visual quality, and the Galaxy S10 Plus it is no exception.

Both the OnePlus 7T Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus have curved screens, metal frames and a glass back, so their designs are very similar.

However, there are also some big differences. For one, the OnePlus 7T Pro has an all-screen front, which is achieved by choosing a selfie pop-up camera (more on that below). The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has a hole for the camera in the upper right corner of the display.

The Samsung phone also has a different arrangement of cameras on the back, with the lenses arranged horizontally while being vertically aligned on the OnePlus 7T Pro.

Most other differences are smaller. For example, the OnePlus 7T Pro is available in 162.6 x 75.9 x 8.8 mm and 206 g, while the Galaxy S10 Plus is a smaller and lighter model of 157.6 x 74.1 x 7.8 mm and 175 g is.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is also available in numerous colors, while the OnePlus 7T Pro is only available in Haze Blue.

Finally, it should be noted that the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has an official water resistance that does not feature the OnePlus 7T Pro.

Both phones feature rear view cameras with three lenses, with the OnePlus 7T Pro featuring a 48MP 1: 1.6 main lens, a 8MP 1: 2.4 telephoto lens (with 3x optical zoom), and a 16MP 1: 2.2 Ultra wide-angle lens brings with it a 117-degree field of view. The main and telephoto lenses also have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, on the other hand, features a 12 megapixel main lens that can switch between f / -slots of 1: 1.5 and 1: 2.4, as well as a 12-megapixel telephoto lens (with 2x optical zoom) and 16 megapixel telephoto lens. 2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens with a 123-degree field of view. The main and telephoto lenses also have OIS.

Apart from the megapixels, the two phones have similar settings, although the OnePlus 7T Pro offers greater optical zoom, while the S10 Plus can use a wider field of view. The video capabilities on the paper are also similar – both capable of recording up to 4K with up to 60 frames per second and 720p slow motion video at up to 960 frames per second or 1080 frames per second at 240 frames per second.

There are bigger differences in front-facing cameras: While the OnePlus 7T Pro only has a 16MP / 2.0 lens, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has both a 10MP / 1.9 lens and an 8MP / 2.2-lens depth sensor. On paper, the Samsung setup sounds more impressive, but in our review, we were not convinced of the need for two lenses.

OnePlus 7T Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Specifications and Features

The OnePlus 7T Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus are both flagship phones, so the specifications are impressive. The OnePlus 7T Pro features a world-class Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (but no microSD card slot).

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus now has either a Snapdragon 855 chipset (in the US) or an Exynos 9820 chipset (in most other countries). These are both high-end models, but not quite as new and innovative as the 7T Pro.

The Galaxy S10 Plus also has 8GB or 12GB RAM and optionally 128GB, 512GB or 1TB of memory and a microSD card slot. The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus thus gains in RAM and memory, but loses computing power.

In terms of features, both phones have a fingerprint scanner on the screen and stereo speakers. However, Android 10 will run on the OnePlus 7T Pro, while the Galaxy S10 Plus will still be on Android 9. It is however updated.

OnePlus 7T Pro against Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus battery

The OnePlus 7T Pro has a 4,085 mAh battery, and the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has a 4,100 mAh battery. So they are similar in size.

However, loading the OnePlus 7T Pro should be faster – it uses the Warp Charge 30T technology, which allows it to load even faster than the 30W OnePlus 7 Pro and certainly faster than the 15W Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus.

However, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus supports fast wireless charging and has a wireless PowerShare feature that lets you use the phone as a charging station to charge other devices. The OnePlus 7T Pro, however, has no wireless charging functions.

On paper, there are pros and cons for both. In practice, we found that the Galaxy S10 Plus was more than the whole day in life, but not much. We'll let you know about the performance of the OnePlus 7T Pro once we've completed a full review. The OnePlus 7 Pro – which is probably similar here – has a similar lifetime in our tests as the S10 Plus.

OnePlus 7T Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Price and Availability

Of course, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is available now. For a 128GB version, this costs $ 999 / £ 899 / $ 1,499, for 512GB $ 1,249 / £ 1,099 / $ 1,849 or $ 1,599 / £ 1,399 / $ 2,399 for 1TB (along with 12GB instead of 8 GB of RAM). However, with the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus offer, it is often much reduced – for example, at the time of writing, some UK stores have the base model for £ 699.

The OnePlus 7T Pro will be available in UK stores from 17 October and costs £ 699 (approximately $ 865 / AU $ 1,300, but availability is currently not available in these regions). So that's less than a full-price Galaxy S10 Plus, but not necessarily much less than the S10 Plus, which is sometimes on sale.

Bring away

Although these are both high-end phones, there are some significant differences. With the OnePlus 7T Pro you get an all-screen design, a newer chipset, a higher refresh rate and faster charging, while the Galaxy S10 Plus offers you potentially more memory and RAM, an additional front camera, wireless charging and water resistance class.

The S10 Plus is also more expensive – but not always many times over. So, your decision about which phone you want to buy is likely to depend on the selection of the specifications and features that appeal the most. However, we would always recommend reading our detailed reviews first – one of which will soon be available for the OnePlus 7T Pro.
