Nokia 6.2 (2019) Review: Hands on

First impressions

With its three cameras at the back, its beautiful screen and its Android One software, the Nokia 6.2 seems to compete with Moto G series and Redmi, Realme and Honor.

Key specifications

  • 6.3 inch HDR screen
  • Android One
  • Three rear cameras with depth sensor
  • Headphone port

The focus will be Nokia 7.2, a 48 megapixel camera, but the Nokia 6.2 should not be rejected IFA 2019 press conference filler.

HMD Global knows a busy IFA 2019 with its brand Nokia, which launches several versatile phones, a pair of wireless headphones and a couple of Android smartphones here in Berlin.

The Nokia 6.2 is one of those Android phones. It offers a range of three-camera cameras, an HDR display and timely software updates in the price range below € 200.

Nokia 6.2 screen and camera – HDR visuals and three cameras at the back

The display is the most remarkable feature of the Nokia 6.2 and it could very well prove to be the best we’ve seen on a phone whose price is below the 200 € mark.

This is a 6.3-inch LCD screen with a small dewdrop top notch, FHD + resolution and, according to Nokia, the ability to broadcast 500 nits of brightness. HDR support is also supported, as HDR SDR conversions are always done in the background. You will be able to watch Amazon Prime’s HDR 10 content, but Netflix support is not known.

It is difficult to judge the brightness and overall quality of the screen in an orange desktop, but despite this, the screen is superb, especially for this price.

The camera also has the potential to be impressive, although it does not offer as many megapixels as the Nokia 7.2. Three sensors are housed inside a circular area at the rear: a 16 megapixel main sensor with an f / 1.8 aperture, a 5 megapixel sensor for depth adjustment only, and another eight-megapixel wide angle camera. It’s a high-performance setup that I’m looking forward to spending more time on when our review units are put to the test.

A night mode dedicated to shooting in low light; Portrait modes abound for this silky blur in the background; and an eight-megapixel camera at the front for selfies.

Nokia 6.2 Specifications and Design – Clean the phone and software

The Nokia 6.2 is powered by a Snapdragon 636 chipset, 3 or 4 GB of RAM depending on the version and a storage of 32, 64 or 128 GB. You also get microSD support and the body of the phone even if it does not have an IP rating, is splashproof.

There is a USB-C port at the bottom, a button to invoke the Google Assistant and even a headphone jack.

Like all Nokia high-end Android phones, the 6.2 is equipped with Android One. Basically, this means that you have an experience without free software with only a few pre-installed Google apps. The only thing that Nokia / HMD really played is the camera app.

Being an Android One device, it also means that, hopefully, you’ll get a quick update of Android 10 and quick security updates for three years.

Finally, it is a very nice phone. The rounded sides make it easy to grip and do not look too big, even if there is a 6.3 inch screen in the front.

Nokia 6.2 – First verdict

With its three cameras at the back, its beautiful screen and its Android One software, the Nokia 6.2 seems to compete with Moto G series and Redmi, Realme and Honor.

A “practical test” is our first impression of a product only – it is not a complete test or a verdict. Our editor must have spent some time with the product to quickly describe what he is using. We call these “practical exams” to make them visible in searches. However, they are still not marked and do not give recommendations.
