At this time of year, we expect GoPro to announce a new generation of action cameras, and the leaks have already occurred. One month after the release of the first series of pictures online, the German tech site WinFuture has released much more and some more details about the upcoming action camera.
The original leak indicated that new accessories – such as an LED light and an external display – could be supplied with the GoPro Hero8 Black. One of the key revelations from the WinFuture report shows that users will be able to connect two accessories to the next GoPro at the same time.
It is called a "media module". When it is plugged into the Hero8 Black, two hot shoes are added to the camera body – one at the top and one at the side. The media module also appears to have a built-in microphone, but with the two hot shoes, users can plug not just an LED light but a better microphone if they feel it is necessary (or even an external display).
Another important addition to the GoPro Hero8 Black is the pivoting mounting plate, which is built into the bottom of the camera. The rounded fingers of the mounting plate fold down when not in use, but can be used to secure the shooter to gimbals.
Adding the mounting plate means that the flap to open the battery and memory card cage, unlike the bottom right corner of the GoPro Hero7 Black, has been moved to the right edge of the camera body.
As for the rest of the design, WinFuture states that there is not much difference between the GoPro Hero7 Black and its upcoming successor. The overall size remains more or less the same, while the two inch touchscreen remains unchanged. Battery life is unlikely to change as an identical 1220 mAh battery will find its way to the Hero8 Black.
According to WinFuture, the Hero8 Black will host a 12 megapixel sensor – the same megapixel count we've seen on both the Hero7 Black and Hero6 Black. According to initial reports from the GoPro Hero8 Black, the new camera will be able to record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second. However, WinFuture reports that the 4K resolution reaches the highest value at 60 frames per second, when the resolution is 240 frames per second has fallen to 1080p. This means that the Hero8 Black can take slow motion.
Floaty celebrates his comeback
WinFuture also reports that the GoPro Hero8 Black maintains the water resistance of its predecessor to a depth of 10 meters. Based on the image published on the German website, however, the lifejacket for GoPro cameras has been redesigned.
The original Floaty – which ensures that the unit does not go down and is easily visible thanks to its bright orange color – is attached to the rear frame door on earlier models so that the entire camera is not covered. However, the Floaty, which possibly arrives next to the Hero8, will dress like a jacket and offer better protection against bumps and falls. At the same time he ensures that the camera remains buoyant.
While there is no news yet about when the official unveiling will take place, WinFuture says the Hero8 Black will have an expected price of $ 470 (that's about $ 520 / £ 422 / $ 757) Get the latest Generation of GoPro.
