Huawei has unveiled its new wearable, the Huawei Watch GT 2, a smartwatch with extensive improvements over the original Huawei Watch GT.
The announcement came during the Huawei opening event for the Mate 30 smartphones, where the new mobile phones for 2019 as well as wearables and more were presented.
The Watch GT 2 costs € 249 (around $ 275) for the 46mm model and € 229 (about $ 250) for the 42mm model and will be available from October. We do not yet know in which regions it will be available, but we will update you when we find out.
The Huawei Watch GT 2 is the successor to the Watch GT. It has improved fitness tracking features over the original and improved health features in the form of sleep tracking and heart rate monitoring.
There are 15 fitness modes, each with several options – for example, there are 13 different running classes.
Options include a compass, flashlight, exercise log, barometer, and phone search app. The screen also has a wider gamut than the previous model.
It is available in two sizes – 42 mm and 46 mm – with a redesigned 3D glass panel with a thickness of 9.4 mm and a weight of 29 g. It is equipped with a 1.4-inch OLED HD screen, whose display is always on (just like the new Apple Watch 5).
Huawei's latest Kirin A1 chipset has also improved battery life compared to previous Huawei wearables – the company claims that this brings twice the energy efficiency and twice the Bluetooth range of the original Watch GT.
Huawei states that the battery life is 14 days or 30 hours in GPS mode, one day for music playback, or 10 hours for Bluetooth calls.
According to Huawei, you can save up to 500 songs to the 2GB memory capacity of the watch. The microphone and speaker allow you to make and receive calls from your wrist when your phone is connected.
We will give you our first impressions of the Watch GT 2 as soon as we have one in our hands. Stay tuned to find out how good this new wearable is.
