Huawei Mate 30 Pro confirmed for Australia – sans Google apps

With the continued Huawei ban in the US forcing the Chinese smartphone maker to continue without access to Google apps and services, many considered the company's new Mate 30 flagship to be a fight in the West.

While this is still the case in the UK and many other European countries, Huawei has officially confirmed that its Mate 30 Pro will receive an Australian version. That means the regular Mate 30 will not be down under for now.

In the local press release of the Mate 30 Pro, Huawei states that the device will be "available in Space Silver and Black in Australia" and that "local pricing and availability will be confirmed shortly".

The Mate 30 Pro features a 6.53-inch OLED display (1,176 x 2,400), the latest Kirin 990 5G chipset, a massive 4,500-mAh battery with 40W wired and 27W wireless "SuperCharge" function and a quad-camera (40MP +) 40MP + 8MP + 3D ToF) on the back and a triple camera setting (40MP + 16MP + 8MP) on the front for selfies.

No Google for you

Bad news for those who want to access Google's services on the Mate 30 Pro. When the device was launched in Munich overnight, Huawei boss Richard Yu confirmed that users can not load the Google Apps for the Mate 30 series sideways.

Yu told attendees that "we were forced to do so, we have a good relationship with Google, but the US government has forced us to and we have no other option."

Instead of the Google Play Store, users have access to Huawei's own App Store. However, you can not expect to find apps like Google Maps or YouTube there. It remains to be seen how the company targets users who want to use these incredibly popular services.

Caution

Along with its announcement for Mate 30 Pro, Huawei has confirmed that its newly announced Watch GT 2 wearables series will also be available in Australia.

According to the device's press release, the Huawei Watch GT 2 will feature "15 sports modes, 10 running-only training modes, enhanced music player and Bluetooth voice calls," and "new wellness features," which allow easy monitoring of a user's heart rate daily sleep and other attributes. "

As with the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Australian prices and the availability of the Watch GT 2 will be announced later.
