Google Nest Hub Max vs Amazon Echo Show: which smart display is better?

During the ongoing war between Amazon and Google to win your smart home, companies have launched a series of products that keep you connected, entertained, and now safe.

However, if you want to use all the above features on a single device, the latest Amazon Echo Show (2nd generation) and Google Nest Hub Max are the best bets. They both have a built-in camera to keep track of them. You can access your home while you're away from the apps and a range of compatible streaming services.

But how do you know which devices you need to buy when both devices are so similar in terms of specifications and features? Well, we've put together a guide to answer that very question.

display

The reason you buy an Amazon Echo Show or Google Nest Hub Max is because it has a screen attached to it that lets you view videos and visual representations of your voice queries. These ads are required for video chats and allow you to view external smart surveillance cameras that you have bought to protect your home.

But which of the two has the better representation?

The Google Nest Hub Max has a 10-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. This is almost identical to the 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800, in the Amazon Echo Show Gene. 2 is used. When no one is near the Amazon Echo Show, the interface shuts down completely while Google Nest Hub Max almost shuts off the ad – not that it really makes a big difference.

Which one is better? It's a tie.

Video Services

Both devices have a number of decent compatible streaming services. However, in terms of big names, you'll find a slightly better choice on the Nest Home Hub.

For the Amazon Echo Show you have the choice between Amazon Prime Video, DailyMotion and Hulu. You will also receive daily news from NBC. It's possible to watch videos from YouTube on the Amazon Echo Show, but you'll need to go through the built-in web browser until Amazon and Google re-add native YouTube support to the service.

If you're determined to stream content, there are a few more options in Nest Hub Max. First and foremost, Nest Hub Max definitely supports YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube Kids – perfect if you have small children who also use the speakers. For the adults at home there is HBO Now and Starz support. However, you can purchase both on Amazon if you're ready to subscribe to Amazon Prime Video.

It's also worth noting that Google Nest Hub Max has Chromecast Built-in, which lets you transfer content to the screen while you're on the same Wi-Fi network. The downside is that not every Chromecast-compatible app is compatible with Nest Hub Max. This means there is currently no way to see Netflix on both devices.

Which one is better? In addition to Amazon Prime Video and Hulu, Nest Hub Max offers a greater variety of content with native YouTube support.

Audio performance

You can not talk about visual performance without talking about what these ads sound like. It's again a close match, but the echo show is removed as a better audio option.

For reference, the Nest Hub Max uses a stereo speaker system with two 18mm 10W tweeters and a 75mm 30W woofer, while the Amazon Echo Show uses much larger 50mm drivers and a powerful bass radiator Although Amazon does not disclose the latter, accurate measurements are used.

In terms of listening in the real world, we found that the Amazon Echo Show is a bit bass heavy, while the Nest Home Hub has a slightly better balance, though it's slightly quieter overall.

Which one is better? Depends on what you're looking for, but in terms of performance, the Amazon Echo Show has it all.

Audio Streaming Services

But what can you expect from streaming services? Both services are quite similar in terms of big names, but here too Google probably wins, thanks to YouTube's support – and more broadly, YouTube Music.

In the Amazon Echo Show you can choose from six main music sources: Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn and Vevo. Amazon Music has a pretty good selection of tens of millions of millions of free music for anyone with an Amazon Prime account. If you want even more options, there is Amazon Music Unlimited. However, most of the main hits are available through the base service.

However, if you want to pick from most of the songs, you can find them on YouTube Music – a service that offers a large portion of the music you find on YouTube for free with ads. However, if you want to stick to the official sources, the Nest Hub supports Max Pandora, Spotify, Deezer and Google's own Play Music.

Which one is better? We have to hand this over to Google Nest Hub Max. There are not that many streaming options, but there was no title we could not find with YouTube Music.

Smart home compatibility

When it comes to smart home, these two devices employ two of the most powerful smart wizards in technology: Alexa and Google Assistant.

Both are compatible with most popular smart platforms and smart devices. However, the biggest differences are with Nest (a Google sub-brand) and Ring, which are now owned by Amazon. However, both ring and nest have a similar range of products – both have smart cameras, doorbells, etc. – so you can not go wrong with either option.

While both Hub Max and Echo Show are compatible with most (if not all) of the same products, there is a small difference in how they learn new skills – Amazon has an open marketplace, the Skills Store, where you can acquire new skills Skills, while Google only tells you when its speakers can do something new. The first likes us better than the latter.

Which one is better? In terms of hardware support, Hub Max and Echo Show are equally consistent, but the Echo Show Competency Library has a small advantage.

Home security

Turning lights on and off with your voice is great, but you can also keep an eye on your home while you're away. Luckily, both Echo Show and Nest Hub Max can drop by while you're away, but the Nest Hub is more of a safety device.

Let's talk through both devices.

The Alexa app on your phone or tablet gives you instant access to one of your Amazon Echo Show devices, as long as they're connected to the Internet. That way, you can see what happens at home at any given time, but you will not receive smart motion or 30 day records. If you're really interested in them, you'll need a Google Nest Hub Max … with a Nest Aware subscription.

The Nest Hub Max is Google's crossover smart speaker / security device, and therefore offers a number of decent security features. When you connect your Nest Hub Max to the Nest app, you can get a live feed from any room where Hub Max is located, as well as video memory. If you upgrade to the Nest Aware subscription, you will receive 30-day stored video and intelligent motion and voice recognition. However, it is a decent security system that is ready for immediate use.

Which one is better? Given that a Nest Hub Max is also a Nest Surveillance Camera, we'll share it with Google.

communication

One of the benefits of these speakers with display is that you can talk to them with family and friends – either from one Amazon Echo device to another or with Google Duo on the Nest Hub Max.

To be honest, both video call options are more of a niche and also require work from friends or family. However, if you have friends or relatives with any of these devices, you may want to purchase one of these devices to avoid additional hassles.

The good news? Both devices support Voice over Internet calls. So you can use both devices to make free calls on any line within the US, Canada, and the UK.

Which one is better? Both devices have room for improvement. Let's call this a tie and continue.

judgment

As you can see, it's a pretty balanced match between the Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub Max. They're the same in almost all key areas, with a few minor differences in the choice of streaming services, home security and their intelligent wizards ,

However, if home security and unlimited song catalogs are important to you, it's worth choosing Google Nest Hub Max. It's nearly impossible to find a song that's not on YouTube Music and in the built-in Nest Cam makes it easy to keep track of your home.

But if you're only concerned with Amazon Prime Video, an intelligent wizard with a growing library of skills and loud speakers, the Amazon Echo Show is a better choice. You can use it to call up Amazon shows on demand and look for new skills. It's also crazy loud, which is great if you want to set it up in a larger room.
