Our guide to the best iPhones has looked very similar over the last 12 months, but with the launch of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, things will soon change.
These three new premium smartphones are likely to take our rankings by storm: the Pro devices have the most impressive specifications we've seen on an iPhone so far, and the base iPhone 11 has a truly competitive price, so we're not counting it out can now.
Apple's iPhone collection 2018 is currently number one on the list, but that's bound to change soon.
We have the new iPhones in our hands for a quick trial, but we will not add them to our best iPhone list until we've used them for a while. In this way, we can safely decide where the smartphones are listed.
However, when our detailed reviews are published, this list will undergo some changes. Expect this in the near future. However, the new iOS 13 live update that adds Dark Mode and other quality of life upgrades will benefit all top iPhones.
The new iPhone series was also launched in Apple's official iPhone range on the market. Now there are a number of mobile phones covering all price ranges – as well as a growing number of unavailable mobile phones. You can still pick up the discontinued iPhones from various retailers and vendors, but the official iPhones are readily available.
Apple's latest iPhone series
The best iPhones are not necessarily the latest, but Apple continues to offer extensive hardware and software upgrades as brand-new iPhones are introduced. So we have previously found that newer remedies are better.
Naming a best iPhone is not as easy as looking at simple specifications, because value and usability are not easily defined – and even those metrics are changed because the best iPhone offerings can affect the value of each device.
That's why we've taken the time to use every iPhone extensively to compare all the features and functionality that new and older iPhones offer. We snapped their cameras, played a lot of games and weighed the value you get for the prize.
So, without further ado, here's our list of the best iPhones on the market, considering that the clock is ticking before this list is completely reworked.
Best iPhone: which one should you buy today?
1. iPhone 11
The best Apple iPhone for your money
Weight: 194 g | Dimensions: 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm | Operating system: iOS 13 | Screen Size: 6.1 inches | Resolution: 828×1792 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: A13 Bionic | R.A.M: 4 GB | Camp: 64/128 / 256GB | Battery: Unknown | Backup camera: 12MP + 12MP | Front camera: 12MP
Fast speeds with discount
Ultrawide lens is far better than tele
Still an LCD screen
Glass back puts fingerprints on
The iPhone 11 is not the highest quality Apple phone, but replaces the "budget flagship" of the iPhone XR and is in terms of value for the outstanding phone of its generation.
Although it lacks a telephoto lens, but as we found it in the Samsung Galaxy S10e, a combination of main and ultrawide lenses, meets most photo needs. Although there is no OLED display, the phone can still achieve the best battery life of its generation thanks to its LCD screen. And it gets even a bit more RAM – up to 4GB from the 3GB of its predecessor.
Add iOS 13 and all the new enhancements to the iPhone 11 series, and this phone is a sleek, mean-looking photo shooter – and the cheapest iPhone ever launched for the iPhone 8 for $ 699.

2. iPhone 11 Pro Max
Big phone, best phone, top price
Weight: 226 g | Dimensions: 158 x 77.8 x 8.1 mm | Operating system: iOS 13 | Screen Size: 6.5 inches | Resolution: 1242 x 2688 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: A13 Bionic | R.A.M: 4 GB | Camp: 64/256/512GB | Battery: Unknown | Backup camera: 12MP + 12MP + 12MP | Front camera: 12MP
Three reversing cameras
The fastest and best iPhone out there
Even more battery
The iPhone 11 Pro Max is not just a confusing change to the naming convention – it's the biggest, fastest, and nastiest iPhone on the market. It's also the most expensive at a starting price of $ 1,099, which only increases if you expand the storage.
Apart from the updated camera suite, not much has changed on the iPhone XS Max. On the other hand, adding an ultrawide lens is a big upgrade. The photo software has also been updated, and switching between zoom levels is much smoother here than with other phones.
According to Apple, the battery life compared to the iPhone XS Max has been improved by an amazing 4 hours. And if you can go beyond the really weird-looking, triple-lens reversing camera block, this is truly the most powerful iPhone on the market.

3rd iPhone 8
The latest 4.7-inch iPhone is a cell phone that many still want
Weight: 148 g | Dimensions: 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm | Operating system: iOS 11 | Screen Size: 4.7 inches | Resolution: 750×1334 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: A11 Bionic | R.A.M: 2 GB | Camp: 64 / 256GB | Battery: 1,821mAh | Backup camera: 12MP | Front camera: 7MP
Wireless charging is useful
The camera is great for direct shooting
Limited upgrade via iPhone 7
Lunettes heavy design looks outdated
This is actually Apple's best-selling iPhone for several good reasons. First, we understand that you refuse to break away from the iPhone's 4.7-inch screen size, and we're not blaming you, frankly. Every time we return to this iPhone with "normal" dimensions, we feel like we just had a smartphone holiday. Second, the price is more reasonable for many than for the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 Plus.
Just because the size of the old iPhones is the same, does not mean that the technology behind it. The iPhone 8 has the same A11 Bionic chipset as the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. Even the wireless charging and fast charging on an Apple smartphone has premiere.
The camera is still fantastic, even if it does not have the dual-lens features that are only available for X and Plus, and you'll be able to take advantage of iOS 11 even better than the smaller iPhone SE.

4. iPhone 8 Plus
A more affordable iPhone with a big screen
Weight: 202 g | Dimensions: 158.4 x 78.1 x 7.5 mm | Operating system: iOS 11 | Screen Size: 5.5 inches | Resolution: 1080 x 1920 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: A11 Bionic | R.A.M: 3 GB | Camp: 64 / 256GB | Battery: 2,691mAh | Backup camera: 12MP + 12MP | Front camera: 7MP
Longer battery life
The iPhone 8 Plus is the best iPhone if you're not ready to jump into Apple's proposed smartphone future and need the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. It remains popular due to its screen size, cheaper price and physical home button.
However, it does have some important features that you will like. It's one of the first iPhones that can charge both wirelessly and quickly, and the camera has been improved. The twin-lens camera does not have an OIS in the telephoto lens (a feature that was saved for the X), but provides an excellent way to take a photo over long distances.
It will not spin nearly as many heads with its bezel-heavy design, but the iPhone 8 Plus is the iPhone for big hands and slightly smaller purses than the new iPhone X.

5. iPhone XR
The best iPhone for those looking for a long battery life
Weight: 194 g | Dimensions: 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm | Operating system: iOS 12 | Screen Size: 6.1 inches | Resolution: 1792×828 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: A12 Bionic | R.A.M: 4 GB | Camp: 64 / 128256EN | Battery: 2,942 mAh | Backup camera: 12MP + 12MP | Front camera: 7MP
Excellent battery life for an iPhone
Lower price and funny colors
Some apps are still not fully optimized
Lower resolution screen
The iPhone XR is a great upgrade for the average consumer who does not want to pay for the most expensive iPhone he can buy (lots of money). This is Apple's "cheap" iPhone, at least when it comes to recently launched phones. It is also the best iPhone of the new trio for battery life.
It features a variety of iPhone XR colors: Blue, White, Black, Yellow, Coral, Red. This contrasts sharply with the more subdued colors of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. However, the internal specifications are identical: Apple's fast A12 Bionic chipset and a 12-megapixel dual-lens camera with a single lens on the back.
You will not get the double lens camera as you would a higher-end iPhone, so you miss telephoto shots. But Smart HDR is the real benefit of taking great photos, and that's all.
It's cheaper, more colorful and has a big 6.1-inch screen. This is enough for most people, especially those who are not persistent on a stunning OLED screen.

6. iPhone SE
Compact, relatively cheap and still quite powerful
Weight: 113 g | Dimensions: 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm | Operating system: iOS 11 | Screen Size: 4.0 inches | Resolution: 1136 x 640 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: Apple A9 | R.A.M: 2 GB | Camp: 16 / 64GB | Battery: 1,624mAh | Backup camera: 12MP | Front camera: 1.2 MP
Old video technology
Despite the small size and the relatively modest price of the iPhone SE is still a phone of the upper middle class. It has the same boxy yet high-quality design as the metal-clad iPhone 5S and the same powerful Apple A9 chipset and rear-view camera as the iPhone 6S.
It lacks the 3D touch capabilities and the higher resolution front camera iPhone 6S and higher. The screen also impressed less overall, which is largely due to a lower contrast ratio. However, it compares well with many mid-range cell phones.
It's also the most powerful 4-inch iPhone out there. For fans of compact form factors, this is an obvious choice. But the best part is the price, as it is one of the cheapest iPhones on the market and a bargain for Apple standards.

7. iPhone XS Max
The iPhone XS Max is still a big, fast phone
Weight: 208 g | Dimensions: 157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7 mm | Operating system: iOS 12 | Screen Size: 6.5 inches | Resolution: 1242 x 2688 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: A12 Bionic | R.A.M: 4 GB | Camp: 64/256/512GB | Battery: 3,179 mAh | Backup camera: 12MP + 12MP | Front camera: 7MP
Large screen for games and movies
Camera is strong for an iPhone
Price: the most expensive iPhone ever
The size can make it difficult to handle
The iPhone XS Max is the best iPhone you can buy right now. It's Apple's biggest and best iPhone – when your hands and wallets are big enough. It has a 6.5-inch OLED screen with HDR10 support to burst colors. It's the perfect phone if you want a huge screen.
Behind this huge screen hides an improved 12-megapixel camera with two lenses. Apple equipped it with Smart HDR and enlarged the sensor to capture larger pixels. Do not be fooled by this 12MP static number. The iPhone XS Max has new depth detection features (such as the XS) for adjustable bokeh (background blur) during and after a recording.
The TrueDepth camera returns with faster face recognition, and your 7MP selfies also get better depth control and Smart HDR. And of course, Animoji returns with the iOS 12 advantage of having Memoji now.
Of course, the iPhone XS Max is more expensive than the iPhone X and the iPhone XS, which replaces the X. However, if you pay for it over a two-year period in a contract (or through the Apple Upgrade Program), it's not much more from month to month.

8. iPhone XS
The best iPhone for those looking for something more compact
Weight: 174 g | Dimensions: 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm | Operating system: iOS 12 | Screen Size: 5.8 inches | Resolution: 1125×2436 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: A12 Bionic | R.A.M: 4 GB | Camp: 64/256/512GB | Battery: 2,659mAh | Backup camera: 12MP + 12MP | Front camera: 7MP
Smart HDR helps the camera
Faster operation in one hand vs max
Battery life not unbeatable
Still very expensive
Believe it or not, the iPhone XS is Apple's best "small" phone. It has a 5.8-inch screen, so it's one-handed friendlier than Max's, but still a considerable upgrade for some people.
It's an upgrade from last year's iPhone X, our best iPhone recommendation, though you'll need to study the changes more closely – the design is no different at all. It has a Smart HDR-enabled 12MP camera, an improved TrueDepth front camera and a fast A12 Bionic chipset, just like the larger iPhone XS Max.
In fact, this all-screen phone is pretty much the iPhone XS Max in last year's smaller form factor. Although it has a smaller battery than the Max and of course a smaller screen, but you will still take the same great photos and videos on this device and play the same games. There it is not different.

9. iPhone X
The iPhone that has changed the range
Weight: 174 g | Dimensions: 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm | Operating system: iOS 11 | Screen Size: 5.8 inches | Resolution: 1125×2436 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: A11 Bionic | R.A.M: 3 GB | Camp: 64 / 256GB | Battery: 2,716mAh | Backup camera: 12MP + 12MP | Front camera: 7MP
Smart TrueDepth camera
The iPhone X is as impressive as it is expensive, but if you really want the best iPhone today and do not want to wait, then it's for you iPhone XI, that's what you get today. Millions of Apple fans have been around since launching almost seven months ago. It is the future of Apple's smartphone.
It has a large, all-screen display except for a section at the top where there is a new TrueDepth camera. This takes selfies to another level and can also map your face to an iPhone X-exclusive Animoji. If you do not know what that is, you probably do not care.
The iPhone X is Apple's 10th anniversary smartphone and offers just about everything iPhone users could wish for, from a trendsetting design to faster technical data and new features. All you have to do is get used to face recognition instead of grabbing for the nonexistent fingerprint sensor.

10. iPhone 7
The first waterproof iPhone
Weight: 138 g | Dimensions: 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm | Operating system: iOS 11 | Screen Size: 4.7 inches | Resolution: 750×1334 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: Apple A10 Fusion | R.A.M: 2 GB | Camp: 32/128 / 256GB | Battery: 1,960mAh | Backup camera: 12MP | Front camera: 7MP
Good camera in low light conditions
Missing clear upgrades
Same design for the last three years
Fancy the big iPhone 7 Plus? Why do not you opt for the iPhone 7, which is a smaller and cheaper alternative?
This was one of the first iPhones without a headphone jack. The waterproof design of the iPhone ensures that your phone survives the strange waste in the sink and not immediately baffled.
The iPhone 7 does not have a camera with two lenses. But with the 12 megapixel sensor you can take absolutely incredible photos.
If you own an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6S, you may not notice much of a difference to this phone, but the newer processor and the newer camera technology might lead you to buy, if you can not stand the high price of the iPhone 8.

11. iPhone 7 Plus
The best iPhone 2016 for a cheaper price
Weight: 188 g | Dimensions: 158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3 mm | Operating system: iOS 11 | Screen Size: 5.5 inches | Resolution: 1080 x 1920 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: A10 Fusion | R.A.M: 3 GB | Camp: 32/128 / 256GB | Battery: 2,900 mAh | Backup camera: 12MP + 12MP | Front camera: 7MP
Lots of power for a good performance
No headphone jack
In 2016, the iPhone 7 Plus was the best phone Apple has ever made, and it remains a winner for its longevity and price. It's bigger than the iPhone X, although it has a smaller display. If you are looking for a smaller phone with a larger screen, this is not the best choice with its 5.5-inch 1080p display.
The big improvements over older iPhones are the waterproof design and a new double lens camera that allows you to shoot two 12MP lenses simultaneously. It provides better optical zoom and a bokeh mode to blur the background of your photos and bring the main focus to the foreground.
The battery life of the iPhone 7 Plus has been significantly improved compared to the iPhone 7 Plus iPhone 6S Plus, and while still an expensive option, is much cheaper than launching, making it one of the best iPhone options for people looking for a deal.

12. iPhone 6S
The best iPhone from 2015
Weight: 143 g | Dimensions: 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm | Operating system: iOS 11 | Screen Size: 4.7 inches | Resolution: 1334×750 | CENTRAL PROCESSOR: Apple A9 | R.A.M: 2 GB | Camp: 16/64 / 128GB | Battery: 1,715mAh | Backup camera: 12MP | Front camera: 5MP
3D touch impressed
Battery life low
Price high for a low resolution screen
The iPhone 6S is, as you probably know, Apple's flagship 2015 model. The Apple A9 chipset and 2GB of RAM (up from 1GB on the previous model) far surpass the 2014 model's performance and are still today still reasonably fast standards, and it also has some other tricks.
It has a 12-megapixel rear-view camera and a proven 8-megapixel front camera, which was the best selfie shooter that Apple had on a phone at that time.
The design and screen of the iPhone 6 are similar to those of the iPhone 6, and especially the latter seems a bit outdated given the competition's super-sharp QHD screens and the recent iPhone X.
This was the first iPhone with 3D touch, which is pressure sensitive on the screen and offers new tricks for improved e-mail functions and shortcuts on the home screen.
