Asus ROG Phone 2 Review

First impressions

If you want power and refinement, not to mention an arsenal of accessories in your next gaming phone, the ROG Phone 2 seems to be the obvious choice. While the Black Shark 2 and the Red Magic 3 are excellent affordable alternatives, Asus seems to have delivered a complete flagship experience with a wealth of player-focused strengths that can not be compared in its latest ROG device.

the Asus ROG phone This is one of the first examples of a well-functioning gaming phone: it has power stacks, a decent camera, front speakers, left and right touch triggers that actually work, and software that helps multiply by ten the game. It also supports really great accessories that turn the phone into what looked like a turbo charged Nintendo DS.

Now, Asus goes ten steps further with the ROG Phone 2, the first smartphone to feature a Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset – and in its latest version of Ultimate Edition, it includes 1 TB storage, 2 Gbps LTE download speeds, and a new matte black finish.

Asus ROG Phone 2 – Design and Screen

Asus ROG Phone 2 Review 1

The ROG Phone 2’s Full HD + AMOLED display is both bigger and faster than the original, with Refresh rate of 120Hz

At first glance, the ROG Phone 2 is virtually identical to its predecessor, but hold it in your hands and you’ll realize that it’s a beefier beast about 1 cm thick, and also more heavy, with an enormous weight of 240 g. This heavy vehicle, however, brings an incredibly large battery – 6000 mAh, and a headphone jack at the top too.

The phone resumes the configuration of the front-shot stereo speakers that puts the screen like on the original, a side-mounted USB-C port for easy charging while playing, not to mention the RGB lighting. In terms of aesthetics, she’s angry – like an angry nasty raptor, and if that sounds like your bag, in her new matte black version, she looks even more angry. That said, the back panel is a fingerprint magnet, regardless of the finish chosen.

The 6.59-inch Full HD + AMOLED phone panel is both bigger and faster than the original, thanks to its 120 Hz refresh rate, making it the first of its kind. Players rejoice – of course, the refresh rate of the phone’s screen is excellent, but the 240hz touch refresh rate means that it saves the contacts imperceptibly quickly, so the latency is lower than that any other smartphone currently available.

The viewing angles look great at the first impression, the blacks are deep and the colors are striking. The main area that we could tell the sports screen displays a high refresh rate and continues to scroll through the menus. Only a few games are optimized to take full advantage of the epic capabilities of the ROG Phone 2 screen.

Asus ROG Phone 2 Review 2

The ROG Phone 2 has been announced with a great game kit

Let’s start with Air Triggers – these are triggers L and R on the phone, just like those found on traditional game controllers and, in fact, on the original ROG phone. This time, however, they were refined with lower latency, faster haptic response, and slick gesture input. The ROG Phone 2 is also the first phone to be equipped with two vibration motors, one on the left and the other on the right of the phone when it is in landscape mode.

Game accessories have always been an area in which gaming phone manufacturers can be creative, and the ROG Phone 2 has been announced with a great gaming kit.

It supports a new Kunai gamepad that contains a serious Nintendo Switch factor. Composed of left and right detachable parts, just like the Switch controller, they can slide on a center piece to form a joystick or lock on either side of the ROG phone (with a compatible holster) to give it joy-con wings. This configuration is associated with the second flip screen of the ROG Phone 2. Asus has created a cross between a Nintendo switch, 3DS and a Decepticon.

A handful of original ROG Phone accessories, such as the HDMI docking station, will work for the ROG Phone 2, though, since both dimensions have different dimensions, all accessories requiring the housing of the phone in a housing or housing will be specific to the device.

With no less than three cooling mechanisms, as with the original, the phone comes with a clip-on fan, which combines with the technology of copper tubes and the cooling of the steam chamber to maintain high framing even when the action becomes intense.

If you use Android 9 with the Asus Zen UI ROG Edition, support for games and applications will not be excellent.

The ROG Phone 2 has a 48MP IMX586 primary sensor coupled to a 13MP ultra-slim lens

Equipped with the same double cameras as those found on the Asus Zenfone 6, photography on the ROG Phone 2 is anything but an afterthought. This means a 48 megapixel main IMX586 sensor combined with an ultra-wide 13 megapixel camera. Unlike the flagship product Zenfone 6, the ROG Phone 2 is equipped with a separate front camera clocked at 24 megapixels and, according to Asus, in an ideal position for live broadcasting.

The phone is also equipped with four noise canceling microphones that allow you to broadcast your audio files with confidence. When it comes to sound, thanks to the headphone jack, you can plug in your favorite gaming headset for a no-dongle session with the ROG Phone 2, and the stereo speakers are powerful – clearly audible in a lively room and, d ‘after Asus, significantly. stronger than those of the original.

Asus ROG Phone 2 – Power

Another novelty: the ROG Phone 2 includes a Snapdragon 855 chipset for incomparable game power. This means an upgrade of 4.2% of the CPU and 20% of the GPU compared to the original 855, which means that other gaming phones like the Black shark 2 and the Red magic 3 seems to pale in comparison.

The 7nm chip of the phone is coupled to 12GB of RAM and up to 1 TB storage if you opt for the new Ultimate Edition. Thanks to the large RAM, the games will not be forced when running in the background and the storage space will be perfect for those who accumulate games, 4K movies or content turned on the phone.

Recharged 6000mAh battery, it is not only one of the largest phones we have ever seen, it is also one of the fastest in charge, with Asus HyperCharge technology that allows it to win 5000 mAh in one hour.

If you want power and refinement, not to mention an arsenal of accessories in your next gaming phone, the ROG Phone 2 seems to be the obvious choice. While the design and size of the phone will certainly not be suitable for everyone, we are optimistic that the ROG Phone 2 will be at least an improvement over the original, which was already one of the best gaming phones of the moment.
