If you're interested in smart cameras, you might know Arlo and its Pro series – which now includes the new Arlo Pro 3.
Arlo's latest camera is located between Arlo Pro 2 and Arlo Ultra with a 2K resolution, adding color night vision to Pro's range of products, while remaining reasonably priced.
In terms of specifications, the Arlo Pro 3 IP65 is waterproof, making it suitable for indoor and outdoor use. It has a field of view of 160 degrees and a resolution of 2,560 x 2,560. With this wider and larger field of view, you can see packages on your porch and the faces of unwanted guests standing too close to the front door.
In addition to the updated specifications, Arlo has added a built-in light that can be remotely turned on and off as shown above, a larger battery that can hold up to six months between charges, and a two-way microphone system.
The most interesting new feature for the Arlo Pro 3, however, is the $ 299 Arlo Pro from Arlo – and that's the color night vision. This feature uses Arlo's advanced algorithms to add color to the traditionally monotone night vision material, giving you vital information about your home's environment.
In a demo of the new Arlo Pro 3, the company showed us comparative footage with two night scenes – one with color and one without. With the color mode enabled, we could see the colors of the cars passing by a house and the clothing details of the passing people. This may sound harmless, but these are important details should anything ever happen to your home.
In addition to night mode, the Pro 3 has an HDR feature that lets you see more in the darkest and brightest areas of the image. This feature, previously only available in the Ultra series, lets you see what's going on in a room where the camera faces a bright window, or in a room where a screen door opens to the outside as our demo proved.
All this sounds like minor adjustments, but these little details may help investigators and give you peace of mind that you are on the move.
The Arlo Pro 3 will be available in black or white at the end of this week for $ 199.99 (about £ 160, $ 295) for the camera only, or $ 499.99 (about £ 400, $ 740) for two cameras and the required Arlo Hub.
